Bocetos: the story
Hip-Hop is also Puerto Rican history! And to tell that story, I’ve created Bocetos: El Podcast – the first podcast that is working systematically on the history of Hip-Hop from the Puerto Rican side. In the first season I offered a careful examination of the origins of a culture that sprang up from the streets of the South Bronx in the early 70’s. A borough heavily populated by Puerto Ricans then. So, through a series of interviews of key players like Vivian Vázquez, Joe Conzo, Raquel Z. Rivera, Willie MB Estrada, BOM5, NAC143, Flaco Navaja, Juan Otero Garabís, William García and Black Rhythm we tackled issues dealing with emigration, identity and race, but equally important we were able to prove without any doubt that Puerto Ricans have been a key foundational part of Hip-Hop from day one. But the focus of this project is to tell the story of how Hip-Hop emerged on the island of Puerto Rico. So as part of the ongoing investigation for De la Salsa al Hip-Hop from this moment on I’ll be exploring when and where each of the elements from this culture arrived in Puerto Rico and who were the pioneers which gave life to it. Join me on this journey!

Thanks to everyone that have been walking alongside me thus far.
